CRAFTING MEMORIES TOGETHER
Our Journey
Meet Candy and Robert—2 prairie kids who found themselves working in the Alberta oil patch. They quickly became friends, continually bouncing ideas off one another and helping the other perfect their craft. When the oil prices started to dip, they both found themselves out of work and looking for the next adventure.
They worked so well as a team that they took a few jobs as a duo. It was at that last gig, a remote mountain lodge, that the dream of Saskitoba was born. They spent months looking for a location and finally stumbled upon the Nisku diner. Although it wasn't their heart's vision, it fit their wallets. They pooled their funds and opened the doors in February 2020.
Their story is woven with resilience, laughter, and a passion for sharing delicious food.
The buffet was started to help them feed the hungry masses during Friday lunches, and within months they found themselves doing more buffet and less menu. This was the niche!
Candy comes from a Ukrainian Canadian family and spent decades cooking these dishes with her mom, baba's, aunts, and finally her daughters. Sharing this food, the customs they grew up with and the rich Ukrainian Canadian traditions was a dream come true.
Candy's daughters and Robert's family have helped them build this family business with them from the ground up.
Chynna (Candy's daughter) joined the team in 2022 and brought her love of cooking and design which helped Saskitoba grow to where they are today.
They have also added local ladies (our "Baba's") to the roster who not only lovingly pinch perogies, but who also bring decades of experience and wisdom to Saskitoba.
We aim to bring you delicious Ukrainian Canadian fare with that "taste of home" in every bite.
